Don't we already have a National Broadband Network?
Sunday, May 24, 2009 at 10:36AM It seems to me that there is a business opportunity going begging by a group of companies that, bless the socks manage to make about $11Bn already per year.
I'm talking about this group of 4 that collectively have rolled out a massive 'owned to the node' network over the existing copper twisted pair infrastructure but are doing very very little with it.
They are .. collecting eftpos and credit card payments. And that is it. Surely this is a very limited use of this saturated and ubiquitous piece of hardware found in every shop where there is any civiliasation.
I mean, by simply embedding a high range wifi transmitter into the existing eftpos machines and partnering with any one of the telcos you would create a high speed data network that covered at least 90% of the population.
And the business model? Well... the charging mechanism is already built right into the device
